This is the cheapest way to “disable” scroll while clicking with the magic mouse. Actually, you’ll just add another trigger for dragging and dropping / simulate mouse click-and-hold by using your keyboard, for which you’ll probably need to get used to. I actually find it more effective and efficient.

Note: Before thinking this is not the article you’re looking for, this actually disables all mouse gestures (beside the physical movement), so you’ll avoid scrolling, swiping between pages, swiping between full screen apps / screens, unwanted drag-and-drop selected texts, etc…

Step 1:
Go to System Preferences > Accessibility > Pointer Control

Step 2:
As the screenshot above says enable “Enable alternative pointer actions”

Step 3:
Click on the Options button for “Enable alternative pointer actions”

Step 4:
Here, you can add any shortcut on keyboard that suits you the best. In my opinion, since Apple Magic Keyboard 2 does not have backlight because of which there are no any shortcuts on F5 and F6, I prefer those buttons.
Double click on some predefined ones (if you don’t like them, for example F11 = Left-click, and set your shortcut to be F5 button and select drag and drop as the action from the dropdown. Just like on the screenshot below:

Set F5 as the Drag and Drop action

Step 5:
Click OK and test your newly set system-wide settings. End your magic mouse Drag and Drop struggles!

I’ve opened a Medium account just for this because I do not have enough reputation to even leave a comment on AskDifferent StackExchange website which has this question as a hot topic. So, thanks StackExchange. It really is your purpose to enable users to help each other.
